Did you know that Findan Software has a strong Okanagan presence? Our President, Todd Scheven, lives in West Kelowna, BC, and our Business Development Manager, Vincent Jones, lives in Kelowna, BC. In addition to Todd and Vince, we also have other team members in various parts of British Columbia, different parts of Canada, South America, Europe and Asia.
So, when the opportunity to attend a technology conference in Kelowna came up, Todd and Vince jumped at the chance. From September 8 to 10, 2024, team Findan was on hand at CanITCon 2024 to meet folks, attend educational sessions and spread the word about our work. The conference took place at the Delta Hotels Grand Okanagan Resort in downtown Kelowna.
CanITCon is billed as “Canada’s Premier Tech Conference” and is focused on supporting MSPs (Managed Service Providers) and leading technology providers. Generally speaking, a Managed Service Provider is a third-party organization that remotely manages another organization’s IT setup – this can include network and infrastructure management, monitoring, cybersecurity and day-to-day support.
While that’s not quite what we do as a custom software development company, we were delighted to connect with other tech-industry folks in (one of) our own backyards. As a serial tech entrepreneur with decades of experience, Todd also previously operated an MSP, which is how he heard about the conference (via Miles Walker at Kaseya – thanks, Miles!)
CanITCon 2024 was the second installment of this new Canadian technology conference, led by Daniel Mitchell and Carrie Green from Alberta. The event brought attendees from across North America together; team Findan connected with folks from Boston, MA; San Diego, CA; Atlanta, GA; Orlando, FL; London, England; Montréal, QC; Toronto, ON; Vancouver, BC (to name just a few places).
While the event is still in its infancy, Vince was impressed:
“I’ve attended or been involved with a number of conferences over the years, so I know how much work goes into making an event like CanITCon happen. I was impressed with the variety of attendees and the networking opportunities around the conference. Sitting in on sessions is a key part of attending a conference, but connecting with other folks at the conference is where the most value exists, certainly from a Business Development perspective. Not only that but there was karaoke at the Wrap Party! Any conference that has karaoke on the agenda gets bonus points from me.”
In addition to meeting lots of folks (including seeing some familiar faces), we sat in on several great sessions at the conference, and we especially wanted to give shoutouts to Wes Spencer at Empath, George Smith at Augmentt, Rob Rae at Pax8, Mark Copeman at Wingman and Todd Kane at Evolved Management for their talks and sessions.
It seems that we weren’t the only ones who had fun at CanITCon 2024, as CanITCon 2025 will also be taking place in Kelowna as well. So, who knows, maybe we’ll be back again next year! See you there?
